Beata & George – wedding at The Imperia, Somerset, NJ / Colonial Park, NJ
Oh, I love it when a couple is so excited about the photography of their wedding day. Well, naturally I am biased here. Beata was very keen on the photographs, and then the challenge is there even more than usual to get photographs that exceed expectations. And here is Beata and George’s wedding day – the fun, the excitement, the moments and the romance.
After the church ceremony, we went to Colonial Park in Somerset for the photos of the bridal party, as well as the bride and groom. Beata had a time-line that allowed us to explore a bit and not rush the photography so much. The large park also gave us more to work with for the large bridal party. Thereafter, The Imperia for the wedding reception.
Beata and George, congratulations and best wishes!
I sent a Q&A set to Beata and George, and here they are with a few words about their wedding:
How did you meet?
On June 28, 2008, Beata and George met at a family retirement party. Beata heard many stories about George but this was the first time she could place the name with the face. George always jokes that he didn’t even know that Stephen (Beata’s cousin and George’s best friend) had a female cousin until the party. As the party went well into the evening like any good Polish affair, Stephen asked Beata to go talk to George. Beata told Stephen that if he introduced her to George that she would talk to him. Stephen laughed and said “It’s George, he doesn’t need to be introduced”. Eventually George, without any introductions, started up a conversation with Beata. They spent the rest of party talking but then it was time to say their goodbyes and they parted ways.
We met a week later for the second time at a small 4th of July gathering in Philadelphia. Neither one knew the other was coming to the gathering. We spent some more time talking and getting to know each other better.
We met a third time at a wedding in November 2008. During the wedding reception, George caught the garter and Beata caught the bouquet. After the wedding George asked Beata for her phone number and he called the next day to ask her out on their long awaited first date.

What detail did you like best about your wedding day?
The best detail that we liked about our wedding day was how everything came to together!! The nice weather, having all of our family and friends there, the large selections of food, and working with great vendors. It all went off without a hitch!!
Describe your decor and how you chose it!
Elegant, classic, modern. We wanted a decor that was timeless. Something we could look back on in twenty or thirty years from now and be happy with our decor.
What was your favorite moment during your wedding day?
George: When Beata was walking down the aisle.
Beata: putting on my wedding dress, walking down the aisle with my father to meet my husband.
George + Beata: Finally, sitting down at the reception and getting a chance to relax. Seeing all the people and taking it all in.
Tell us about your food and cake!
We heard from everyone that they were amazed at how much and how good the food was. The guests were blown away with Viennese Gala.
Why did you choose Neil van Niekerk for your photography?
We chose you as our wedding photography because of your quality work. Your attention to detail and technical skills are very much portrayed through your work. Your professional and yet casual demeanor puts you at ease. Our photos did not disappoint, and it was pleasure to work with you.

Beautiful captures. Perfect moments indeed. For the father & bride dance – what lighting and modifier did you use?
For the walking towards you photos – what was your minimum shutter speed? Thanks Neil
Neil says
For the reception photos, I only used on-camera bounce flash, with the black foamie thing as the light modifier.
For the outdoor scenes of the bridal party walking towards me, I was at maximum flash sync speed. The sweet spot for flash.
