Tressa & Tyler – a wedding in Wisconsin
A wedding in Wisconsin! Even though I am a wedding photographer based in the New Jersey & New York area, I do travel anywhere in the USA and even overseas. It is a huge privilege then when a couple would have me as their photographer, skipping over local photographers to reach out to me. For Tressa and Tyler’s wedding, we made it a road trip up to Wisconsin (via a stop-over in Chicago). All part of the adventure.
Tressa & Tyler’s wedding reception was in a marquee tent, and that fit the laid-back manner and style they have. The photographs here will really show everyone’s spirit at the wedding – and, yes, Wisconsin people can party! So much energy and fun. There were also many endearingly humorous moments during the day. Have a look at Tressa’s resigned expression at the main table during the toasts – the next photo will explain why. Oh, and they had a Barmadillo truck serving drinks. It’s all in the photographs – have a look.
Tressa and Tyler, thank you again – it was all a memorable experience. Best wishes for your future together.
I sent a Q&A set to Tressa and Tyler, and here they are with a few words about their wedding day:
How did you first meet?
We met around 7 years ago through a mutual friend at Rodeside Grill (where we stopped after the wedding). We went on a few dates back then but it never amounted to anything serious. Then a few years ago we tried again and here we are now 🙂
Why did you choose a marquee tent as the venue for your wedding venue?
We wanted to invite over 300 people and there weren’t any venues that we loved that would hold that amount of guests. A few months prior to our engagement our friend purchased The Old Schoolhouse and was working to turn it into a wedding venue. We toured the space before it was remodeled and although the inside space wasn’t big enough she had 10+ acres of land that we could use for the tent. We loved that it was outside and the grand look of the huge tent. It turned out to be a GORGEOUS late-October day so it was no problem being outside all day.
What was your wedding inspiration?
Our inspiration came fairly naturally. We wanted traditional fall colors.
Which songs played for your first dance and parent dances?
Our first dance was “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait.
We danced with our parents to “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton and Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”
Why did you choose me for your photography?
I had purchased your photography books and followed your Tangents blog for quite a while. There are a lot of photographers around Madison but none that I felt would tell the story of our day like you.
What’s next on your calendar as a couple?
Well the honeymoon is already over, so just settling into our new house and not having to worry about planning a wedding!

LOL it looks like this was an awesome party. I wish I could hear what the speeches were – the reactions are priceless! Way to be prepared and grab those reactions! I think my favorite photo is the third in the set – is that taken around 200mm?
Great photos!!

Yup, that was one of the few times I pulled out the longer lens – the 70-200mm f/2.8
I love it for the compression you get when used at the longer focal lengths.
