Marni & Nick – an intimate New York micro wedding

Marni & Nick’s wedding was an under-stated event, with just 70 guests attending – family and closest friends. The wedding ceremony and reception was held in La Sirena at the Maritime Hotel, NYC. (There are detail photos below if you want to see the settings and decor.) Even their ceremony was under-stated. No marching down an aisle of any kind – as everyone was gathered for the cocktail hour preceding it, the officiant (also a close friend of the couple), just told everyone to gather around Marni and Nick. Now, the word “intimate wedding” might be misleading in a way, because this wasn’t all that quiet a wedding – there was a happy energy there, a buzz with everyone happily chatting and catching up. One of the best compliments that I can get as a wedding photographer is when a client really loves their photos, and yet wasn’t quite aware that I was there. Even more so with an intimate wedding with 70 people attending.

The romantic portraits were taken inside Chelsea Market, just across the street from the hotel. Stylishly dressed, but in a way unadorned (no flowers, for example), the way Marni and Nick presented themselves was entirely in line with the style of the evening’s proceedings – confidently stylish, unassuming and just happy and friendly. I just loved working with the two of them, as you can see from the photos we took before the ceremony, meandering inside the market area, sheltered from the cold.

The photos here of their wedding ceremony itself, quietly tells the story of what went down – Marni and Nick and their officiant encircled by family and friends. There are a few photos to show the exuberance with which the officiant told the story of how they met and how we got to this day – their wedding. One of the most amusing ceremonies ever that I’ve attended as a wedding photographer!

In the to-and-for emails when I sent Marni the link to the galleries, she wrote back:

Wow – incredible!! I’m supposed to be working but clearly not going to get anything accomplished for the remainder of the day!

These are awesome. How can we possibly choose?? BTW, love that you captured me running off mid-ceremony to grab a drink – the expressions on Nicks kids’ faces are truly priceless!!

I know – I saw – totally amazing! Any you managed all of that while being totally invisible!

And there it is – the compliment that had me glowing – that I was able to capture their wedding day appropriately, without intruding at all. Just how it should be.
