Peiwen & Eric – a wedding in Melbourne, Australia – destination wedding photographer
I can’t imagine a bigger compliment as a photographer, when someone is so taken by my work that he asks if I want to fly out to Australia to shoot his wedding. Eric follows my Tangents blog (which is loaded for info for photographers), and decided he would like me to photograph his and Peiwen’s wedding. This meant the pressure was on! The photography had better be awesome. Peiwen and Eric turned out to be the just wonderful to work with, and planned their wedding day to have generous time for photography. In fact, when Peiwen and Eric fetched my wife at the airport, I whispered to my wife that they are so cute!
The wedding ceremony and reception was at Quat Quatta, a quaint venue in Melbourne. They both got ready at Crown Casino hotel before-hand. After the daytime reception, we had enough daylight left to visit several places for the romantic portraits. Even enough time for balloons! A first for me.
The next morning, Eric and Peiwen met up with their parents and family members for the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony. Then Sara and I were generously invited to attend Yum Cha with the family. It was a real treat to hang out with everyone and sample traditional Chinese food while chatting to some of the bridal party and family. A lot of laughter when Eric’s dad gave me “automatic chopsticks” when he saw how clumsy I was. The reason why I even mention this, is that it illustrates just how warm and friendly everyone was, and we were really made to feel like special guests at their wedding.
Then in the late afternoon of this Monday, we went to Brighton Beach in Melbourne for a photo session. The late afternoon light and sky was beautiful with a touch of the epic. The colorful beach huts also made for sparklingly bright backdrops.
The photographs of their wedding is among the very best work I have ever done as a photographer, and I am very proud of all of this. There is a slideshow of my favorite images, if you want to see more images.
But the entire trip to Australia was memorable and fantastic, with Peiwen and Eric’s wedding being the grand finale there for us. An amazing experience. Peiwen and Eric, thank you for your graciousness and warmth, and we wish you the best for your future together. Stay in touch!
