Randa & Adam – their wedding day – Crystal Plaza, NJ

I photographed Randa’s sister’s wedding a number of years back, which made it quite special to be invited back to photograph another special occasion in this family. Randa and Adam are quite a photogenic couple, as you can immediately see in the top images here.

The wedding ceremony was Orthodox Christian, which meant it was colorful and vibrant. The St George Antiochian Orthodox church in Little Falls, NJ is also beautiful with huge tinted glass windows. Of course, for photographers this means both interesting and challenging light – but that’s another story. The wedding reception was held at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, NJ which is also great to shoot at. Along with a couple that was wonderful to work with, this all added up to a day where I am quite proud of the photographs.

slideshow: my favorite wedding photos of 2011

2011 was another wonderful crazy-busy year for me. Photographing weddings and various photo sessions make up the majority of my work as a photographer. I also presented photography workshops across the USA; and 2 sold-out workshops in Dublin, Ireland! Another major event was that my 2nd book on flash photography was released in March ’10.

Most of what I do though, centers around the weddings that I photograph. This year again I met and worked with wonderful brides and groom and their families. As a thank you – and also to show off a bit – here is a slideshow of some of my favourite images of the year. Thank you to everyone who made me part of a most special day in their lives.

Justine & Kyle – their wedding day – The Palace, Somerset Park, NJ

I love doing the engagement photo session with a couple, primarily because it helps me establish a rapport with the couple ahead of time, and it helps the couple in knowing what to expect in working with me as their wedding photographer. But somehow, somehow, Justine & Kyle and I never quite got to the photo session in the busy time running up to their wedding. Not having met either of them before the wedding at all, I had no real idea of what I’d be in for … and what a surprise to meet such a photogenic couple. Full of energy and personality! Theirs was one of those weddings where I actually still feel energized afterwards! (It also helped that their wedding reception took place at The Palace in Somerset Park, NJ)

Justine and Kyle, it was such a pleasure meeting and working with the two of you. Congratulations!

Julie & Kenny – photo session – Laurita Winery, NJ

The picturesque grounds of Laurita Winery was the setting for Julie and Kenny’s photo session. Handy as well because this is where their wedding will take place next year, and it was a good opportunity to scout the place for places that would work for photos on the big day. An unusual and interesting place for a photo session. Even better when working with a photogenic couple. Julie & Kenny – I’m really looking forward to it!

Andrea & Rui – their wedding day – The Newark Club

It is always wonderful to work with a couple who are so in love with each other, and easy-going with any ideas for the romantic portraits. Even going out on the cold evening and patiently working with me for a few killer photos outside, didn’t faze them. The photo at the top was taken outside their reception venue – The Newark Club. The photo session earlier on was at Verona Park – great as a romantic setting.

Vanessa & Warren – photo session

When Vanessa contacted me about a photo session, my first question was when their wedding date would be. I had assumed she wanted an engagement photo session. Turns out that Warren and Vanessa have been married a few years already, and just wanted some really nice photographs of the two of them together. Now, would I be one to argue that *that* is a bad idea?

And this is how we ended up on a beautiful Fall day – a photogenic couple with tons of personality, and myself, having fun with the photo session.

Kelly & Lee – their wedding day, New Jersey shore

How a couple’s engagement photo sessions goes is always a good indication of how the wedding day will be. With Kelly and Lee’s photo session on the beach, I already knew their wedding day would be energetic and a huge amount of fun … and here’s the proof. Kelly and Lee brought the same amount of energy to the wedding day photo session. Everyone in their bridal party had tons of personality as well.

I just love photographing Indian weddings! Colorful sprawling events. A little bit of chaos, lots of friendly people.
