Jennifer & John ..

December 24, 2009

The last wedding that I photographed in 2009 was Jennifer and John’s .. and it ended the year on a high note for me, working with such a wonderful couple.  This is one of those times as a wedding photographer where I am really proud of the images .. so I’ll let them stand on their own here, to tell the story of the day.

The entire day was a joyful celebration, although John does look a touch nervous here, waiting for Jennifer and her dad to walk down the aisle ..

Snow started falling by the time the ceremony ended.  Perfect for a December wedding!

.. and from there we went straight to the ...

wedding reception at The Tides, NJ

.
Some touching moments during the formal dances of the evening ..
Ashleigh and Jonathan, then Ashleigh and her dad, and Jonathan and his mom.

.
Jennifer’s dad made a star appearance, serenading the couple ..

Jennifer and John, congrats and the best of everything!

Neil,

These images of Jennifer and John are really astonishing! What lens and apertures did you use in order to isolate the subject from the background so nicely as show in image #4?

Beautiful work.

Nicolas, that image in the church was taken with a 70-200mm f2.8 zoom, at f2.8

The longer focal length and wide aperture created the seperation.

In the 3 romantic portraits photos of the couple, I used the 85mm f1.4 wide open, for an even shallower depth of field.

Neil, Thank you for the information! These images are very storytelling. You captured the chemistry of love quite well.

I visit your site quite often in order to gain inspiration and to learn basic lighting techniques. I am not a professional photographer, but I always try my best to learn and take great pictures. Two days ago I was taking pictures at a lecture given by the 2009 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry at Yale, and I always had your flash techniques in mind.

Thank you for keeping such an informative web site.

I came upon your blog and site and love what I see. I absolutely LOVE the first image of the bride here. It feels so romantically classic with the mute tones. Stunning work through out.
